10 Active Things to do in Europe
Vacation in Europe is just not about visiting museums, sightseeing places. Europe has much more than this to offer. It is a lot thrill which it can give to the tourists. Europe offers many activities. I got to enjoy these activities and all were absolutely amazing. Given below are 10 active things that I did in Europe and would also recommend others to do the same.
Gateway to different activities in Europe
Canyoning
This sport includes abseiling, jumping and sliding from the top of a canyon to the bottom. Canyoning is for people who are brave-hearted. People with faint-heart cannot do it. I had to contend with waterfalls, rapid and steep cliffs. This required proper gear protection. The best place for this sport in Europe is Interlaken in Switzerland. It has tall and narrow gorges and is very famous for canyoning. The places for this are Austria, France, and Italy.
Kite-Boarding
This is completely an extreme sport. If someone wants adventure then this is worth trying. It is a combination of all aspects of wakeboarding, snowboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding, skateboarding and sailing. This best place for this sport is Tarifa in Spain. This place is known as the kite surfing and kiteboarding capital. Other places for this are Italy and France.
Biking
People generally prefer easy-going tours or the rough-terrain mountain biking. Europe is absolutely bike-friendly. People can rent a bike and move throughout the entire continent. Most of the cities have a proper cycle path too. I explored Amsterdam by a bike. Riding a bike gave an all-together different experience.
Paragliding
This is a sport which will make people feel like flying birds. It is a totally safe and fun sport. It also offers an amazing panoramic view. Some people find this as an extreme sport but some find it to be very relaxing once they are airborne. Europe has many spots for paragliding like France, Huesca in Spain and Switzerland.
Kayaking
This is considered as one of the extreme sports. Europe has wild white-water, peaceful lakes, mellow rivers, and fascinating coastlines. The white-water in Europe is found in French Alp but it is for experienced kayakers. I didn’t try it out here. I did this sport in Italy at Lake Garda. The other place for this is the island of Elba, off the coast of Tuscany.
Skydiving
This is one of the sports that tops the bucket-list of most of the people. Nothing can be compared to the experience of skydiving. I also felt the same when I jumped out of a plane and freefalling towards Earth at 120 mph with a parachute. It was like a dream come true. Europe has dozens of places for skydiving. The places are Tirol in Austria, Algarve region in Portugal and Slovenia.
Hiking
It interests some and others don’t consider hiking to be interesting. It is adventurous to see pastoral landscapes and rugged mountains. There are short hikes and long hut-to-hut hikes also. Europe has many places to offer hiking. The famous hiking trail is the Alta Via1, the Camino to Santiago de Compostela and Alsace Wine route.
Horseback Riding
Horse riding is so much fun. It is completely a magical experience to see Europe on horseback. In old times people used horses to explore places and my experience was indeed outstanding. European countries like Spain, France, and Italy have a vibrant horse culture. They provide many facilities for people riding a horse. The famous place for this is the Atlantic Coast.
Skiing
I love snow and skiing is something which I enjoy the most. Europe is a home for the world’s most impressive ski resorts. It provides great snow coverage and excellent facilities. I went to the Alps for skiing. There are other destinations too like Bulgaria and Turkey plus it’s affordable.
Escape Rooms
After much of the physical challenges, I thought to try out a mental challenge too. Escape Rooms is a mental challenge. It is a game in which I had to solve a puzzle with my group in order to unlock the door of the room. It is recently becoming popular in Europe. This game is found in bigger and smaller cities.
I can say that trying out these activities in Europe is a totally different experience. Rather than seeing the same type of places one should surely do these activities in order to enjoy and explore the beauty of Europe.
