History

T-Centralen:
T-Centralen was inaugurated in 1957 and it became the first station in Stockholm that displayed artwork in its subway. It was designed by local artist, Per Olof Ultvedt.
Stadion:
Stadion is decorated with colorful and brilliant rainbow and is located near Stockholm’s annual Pride festival. It was the first station that was carved out of bedrock.
Tekniska Hogskolan:
It was constructed by Lennart Mork. The station has the display of interesting elements from science like a giant glass polyhedron and has the dark and moody feel. It was inspired by the nearby Royal Institute of Technology.
Universitetet Station:
Its main feature is a massive tile panel describing the travels of Carl Linnaeus, a famous Swede who is considered as the father of modern taxonomy of organisms.
Thorildsplan Station:
This is a subway for 90s gamers. Local artist Lars Arrhenius used tiles to create 8-bit video games art that has Super Mario, Space Invaders, Pacman, etc. for display.
Rest of the most favorite decorated subways are Solna Centrum, Hallonbergen, Radhuset, and Mörby Centrum
Tips for Visiting Stockholm’s Subway Art
If you want to visit the subways in Stockholm on a daily basis then best for you would be to get an SL Access card. It would cost you around 20 SEK. You could recharge the card with unlimited travel for different time limits. You could recharge it for 75 minutes, 24-hours or for 72-hours.
So, if you are in Stockholm and are wishing to visit the subways then the best time for visiting the subways is around 12 PM. At this time, there will be very less crowd and you will get easier shots through your camera without any disturbance from other people that sometimes ruin your photos.
