Sweden follows many traditions just like other countries and one out of those traditions in the Easter egg. Easter egg is mostly placed on the Easter table for decorations. Celebrate Easter in Sweden-

A Swedish master’s student Sven Palmen says that on Easter’s evening, they paint the Easter egg and they don’t go to the church but spend their time with family. He said, “On Easter Eve we paint eggs and you get candy eggs. We don’t usually go to church but prefer to spend a quiet evening with the family. On Easter Day we have dinner together. The main meal is something we call Påskbord which consists of meatballs, pickled fish and eggs. Then, on Easter Monday we usually just relax at home with the family.”

Some children practice a fun tradition that is similar to Halloween. On Easter Day, children dress up as witches with different outfits while some of them paint their faces and run from house to house in their neighborhoods asking for sweet.

Apart from these things, Easter in Sweden is celebrated by placing or decorating with birch twigs. Birch twigs remind us about the sufferings of Jesus Christ. These can be found in streets and outside the houses. Nowadays, these twigs are painted and glued with feathers and are placed in the vases. The whole house is wrapped by the vases and it looks beautiful. This is the new Swedish ritual that is now followed by everyone.

“We spend Easter Eve decorating eggs and making cakes. At midnight we go to church for the Easter Mass where we light candles and sing. The next day at breakfast we have eggs and bread dipped in wine that we get from church. Lunch consists of a sort of bread baked with cheese that we call ‘Pasca’ and lamb cooked with wine and herbs in the oven. Usually, on Sunday and Monday night, young people go out partying with their friends”, says a Romanian master’s student.

Easter has its own importance in different countries and it is celebrated differently in every country. Each celebration has importance and rituals of its own. So, if you ever visit Sweden during the Easter time then take part in the above-mentioned celebration and try to feel how much fun it is to celebrate Easter in Sweden.
