Historical Places a Must Visit in Europe
Europe is a huge continent. There are many places to visit but this time I went for a specific kind of touring. I went to Europe to see the historical places here. History had always been my favorite subject and to explore the history of Europe was a must visit. It was chock full of historical sites. I went to the top 10 historical places. It was totally worth visiting these. So given below is the list of these places that I visited with a description about it.
Vibrant historical places in Europe
Oxford, England
Here the entire city has historical sites. I visited many colleges and buildings which has been here for centuries. These places I went during the day time. At night I went to some authentic pubs to enjoy the nightlife of Oxford.
London’s Historical Walk, England
There are many historical structures in London. I started with the Tower of London and then walked along the river Thames. Then I went to the famous St. Cathedral church. My next visit was to Trafalgar square, the horse guard, the cabinet war rooms and finally to the Buckingham Palace. I got to know a lot about each of these places.
Les Catacombes, Paris
This place has a story with it. I got to know that in the year 1785, the Parisian government had solved the overflowing cemetery problem by clearing buried bones of about 6 million people. It was then placed in underground quarries. When I walked through this place I saw the remains of that time.
La Alhambra, Granada, Spain
People come here from all around the world to see this place. I sat in the shadow of the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountain. This particular place city has a kind of haunting feeling and Moorish flavor. The ruins of La Alhambra gives a glimpse of life inside the Moorish compound centuries ago.
The Pantheon, Rome
This is a very famous structure all over the world. It actually symbolizes the glory and culture of ancient Rome. This is still preserved. I just loved visiting here.
Olympia, Greece
The ruins here are a UNESCO World Heritage site. I went to the Olympic Arena and the Temple of Zeus. This temple once had the colossal gold and ivory cult statue of Zeus. This is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
The Acropolis, Athens, Greece
This place attracts a lot of tourists in the day time. It is one of the ancient and modern treasures which the city provides. This place is brightly lit in the night time. I went to the museum which was behind the Parthenon. The old city of Agora has the ruins that have the remains of the courtrooms, Senate buildings, and law libraries.
The Old City Walls, Dubrovnik, Croatia
This old city has 25m high walls. I walked around the city. These were built and fortified between the 13th and 16th centuries. The protection offered by the structure is amazing. I took pictures from different angles.
Auschwitz and Birkenau, Krakow, Poland
This is a concentration camp. This camp is one of the notorious ones. This is the symbol of genocide in the 20th century. First, they showed me a documentary film and then I explored the grounds. It was a long tour but totally enjoyable.
Roman Forum/ Pallantine Hill, Rome
This place is known as the heart of the city. It has remains which I got to see. These reflected the complexities and grandeur of the Roman Empire. One should not miss this.
After seeing all these historical places, I got to learn many things. It was a completely different experience. One who has an interest in history should visit these places.
